The BLT operates as follows: For each battery brand and size installed you should start by measuring and recording a .baseline. Mhos reading. Self-adhesive test data labels may be used for recording each inspection. When the current Mhos reading has reached at or around 71% of the original baseline then it is time to consider changing the battery. This battery tester is very comprehensive, as it gives you the capacity that your battery still has as well as a status of the charge.I went to the dealer to have some work done on my car, and asked what was involved with their battery test. All the dealer does is determine the amount of charge that is on the battery.Knowing the capacity of the battery is important to understand the health of the battery, and knowing when the replace it before it goes out. Mechanics suggest that the battery should be replaced when it only has 30 capacity.

As i said, I am a professional technician. I purchased this because i wanted to try it. Little did i know i would be grabbing it at least twice a week to test customers batterys. Its QUICK and i mean from toolbox to results is less than 1.5 minutes. No delay, quick, accurate. For $40 this little guy has amazed me. I used it this week to just double check a good customers battery that is going on a trip (just as a courtesy) and low and behold it showed the battery beginning to fail. Just to be sure i plugged in my coworkers slow overpriced snappy tester and my $40 tool was right. For a quick cheap little tool go for it!!!!!!

I know my AGM battery is going downhill, but it's not yet bad enough for a warranty replacement. Instead of constantly driving by the dealer to check the latest readings, I bought this to monitor my battery. I went by the dealer and had them test my battery with their calibrated, much more expensive battery tester. Then I measured with this one. The reading from this BT50 unit was 1 CCA off and the same voltage. I'd say that's well within any margin of errorI have some issues with it, however. The negative clip has fallen apart twice in my hands when squeezing it all the way open. Fortunately I've had no problem reassembling it so far. Also, if you don't have a great ground connection, it always reads 31 CCA. It is very sensitive to having a solid connection--which is understandably important. I hope it stays together for a while now that I know not to open a clip to its maximum.

My truck has been cranking over slowly. I checked it with another analog battery tester that I had and readings were ok. But my truck was not starting right. I bought this unit and it confirmed that my batteries were bad and needed to be replaced. The digital readout is great and tells you if your batteries are good or bad without a question.
