Manufacturer Details

Catskill Craftsmen is the nation's leading manufacturer of domestic hardwood ready-to-assemble kitchen carts, islands, and work centers. Catskill also manufactures gourmet butcher block chopping blocks, cutting boards, hardwood cabinets and furniture, plus book carts and racks. Located in Stamford, New York, Catskill Craftsmen has been producing quality wooden products for over 55 years.
Catskill Craftsmen is located in Stamford, New York, a small rural village nestled in the northern sections of the Catskill Mountains, at the headwaters of both the Schoharie and Delaware rivers.

Catskill Craftsmen began operations in 1948, and has developed over the years, becoming the nation's leading manufacturer of RTA (ready to assemble) hardwood kitchen islands, carts, and work-centers. The company is privately held, and takes great pride in its products and services.

Sixty dedicated employees work hard to insure that our products are delivered rapidly and meet your satisfaction. Catskill's manufactured items are made from naturally self-sustaining, non-endangered North American hardwoods, primarily birch and hard rock maple. Lumber is purchased from area sawmills, then dried, manufactured, and packaged on site. All sawdust, shavings and waste materials generated during the manufacturing process is converted into wood pellet fuel, and used to heat homes. Catskill is proud to say, "our operations generate no wood waste".

Catskill is also a leading manufacturer of exclusive, private label kitchen workcenters for the trade. Their products are described as "high quality at fair prices".

This fits perfectly in my kitchen and has been very useful for storage and additional preparation counter space when needed for company or preparing large meals. I put a cutting board on top of it to avoid marring the wood on top. It is designed nicely and is crafted well. It adds a nice decorative touch to our kitchen.

I bought this as a Christmas gift for my mother. I have put together plenty of furniture in my life, and this was definitely one of the mot challenging. The paper instructions are a little vague in certain areas, but if you take your time, you can figure it out. I recommend laying out all of the pieces first, and opening bags of parts as you need them. It also ships very dry, you'll probably want to apply some sort of finish to it. I waited until I got it all together, then applied a few coats of Watco rejuvenating oil, and it turned out great. Overall, I spent about 4 hours assembling, and around 2 more applying coats of oil.

This kitchen cart is everything it claims in the advertisement. I read all the reviews and despite being fearful of the difficulty of assembling the cart, ordered it based on the apparent satisfaction of the reviewers with their final product. After I opened the box and laid out all the parts, read the directions, watched the instructional videos on the Catskill website, putting it together was not nearly as difficult as I was led to believe. Be sure to separate out each set of fasteners and label them using the instruction sheet which identifies each screw, etc. I actually placed each separate batch/group of identical fasteners in a sandwich bag and labeled each bag with the size of the screw/fastener so when it was time to use it, I found it immediately. Some of the screws are very similar and had to be measured to identify them. There was a screw substitution for the drawer assembly and this substitution was used. Also the instructions indicate that the bastion fastener is used to assembly the drawer, but it is not. A separate post system is used for that so pay attention. I am a 50+ year old single woman and I was able to put it together by myself. My daughter helped me put the sides on the cart because it is definitely much easier when two people are working together on placing it together simultaneously before securing it. Everything fit together like a glove. I too, was not impressed with the Bastion fastening system because you have to tweek the posts just so to make the proper tight connection. The posts must be backed out a complete 360 turn so be sure to do this or you won't be able to get a tight fit. The cart was packed quite securely and there were no damaged items or missing parts either. After I finished the assembly, I oiled the cart and butcher block top down as directed. It looks very classy in the middle of my kitchen and is quite sturdy. I highly recommend this to anyone looking for a mid-size roll-able kitchen work station. Having the extra butcher block leaf to use is a bonus too for a very small extra cost, it is worth it. The instructions were very clear (they did leave out a few minor steps that could have been included but were intuitive anyway) and there are numerous videos on the Catskill Craftsmen website that were also very instructional and I recommend taking the time to view these before tackling the assembly. I'm thinking that Catskill may have reacted to the previous customer reviews and made the instruction sheet more specific and adding the instructional videos on their website to facilitate ease of assembly.

This kitchen island has markedly increased the functionality of my kitchen. In addition to providing storage space for containers and equipment and a place to hang dish towels, it has a nice size countertop that is useful for both preparing food and eating. With a couple of inexpensive wooden stools, it doubles as a kitchen table. The wood is beautiful, and the construction is solid. The only drawback was the complex assembly that took me a whole weekend (!), but I knew what to expect in this regard from previous reviews. All in all, this was a great purchase for my needs, and I am very satisfied.

This is great bad others said it did take a while to put together but it wasn't as painful as someday it seem. I highly recommend laying out all the pieces and hardware to ensure you use the right ones. There are also some great videos on the Catskill website. This is a lifesaver in our kitchen where we can't fit a full table but wanted some extra counter and eating space.

We LOVE our new kitchen cart. The wood is very high quality. Even better than I expected from a pre-fab piece of furniture. It took some time to put together (I'd say about 6-7 hours), but that is just a good sign of it's quality. And my husband felt good doing it.
