I bought slate and worked with writing on it with chalk, bought non-slate inexpensive chalkboards in green and then black, tested and experimented for months! I had a pretty good, very large, and very old green chalkboard in the bedroom. It had been in a few different places in the house through the years. I just found I wasn't using it, and had to figure out how to fix that!I like writing with chalk, but thought I had to give that up, because I'm allergic to everything, and can't have chalkdust around.But then I learned something. If you use a good chalkholder, you are not touching the stick of chalk, and I get NO chalk on my hands. And if you get rid of your chalk eraser and use a damp cloth instead, no dust then, either!I just discovered after getting TWO of these 2' x 3' Quartet black porcelain chalkboards that if the board is wiped clean with a damp cloth instead of an eraser, my goodness, the chalk looks better on it! It's much more vivid!My hubby is very skilled with all sorts of handyman skills, so his getting both of these chalkboards up at exactly the height I needed and having exactly the needed mounting parts in the box with the beautiful new blackboards might not be your experience. For one thing, right where one of the chalkboard attachments to the wall might have gone had an electrical connection hiding in there! He quickly found another way to mount it. These kinds of things WILL happen in real life, so be patient, and if there's something doubtful there, get a pro to help!These boards are a great size for my reaching distance for writing, and for the rooms they are in. I use Prang chalk, and it is really great on these nice, smooth boards.I was nervous when I read the directions for prepping the board for chalk. I really could not do that because it requires using an eraser--which I'm also not going to do when I write on the boards. Well, what I did was thoroughly but not roughly wipe down the entire board with a very damp cloth, let it dry, do it again and let it dry, do it a third time, and then wrote on it with chalk. I like writing Bible verses on there, covering the whole board. I've done each board twice now and the writing and cleaning with the damp cloth are working great.I am thrilled with these two boards!

This is a heavy duty and very well made chalkboard. I have this in my living room and everyone that has seen it liked it and usually ask to write something on it. I thought it was a lot to pay for a friggin chalk board until I actually got it and saw the quality.

This is what we got our 4 year old for her birthday. She absolutely loves it, and so does her 2 year old brother. It's AWESOME because it's magnetic and they can put all their magnetic tiles on it and make really elaborate pictures. It's very sturdy and easy to clean. I absolutely love it. I think it's worth spending the extra money on this because it is a lot more versatile and sturdy. I clean it with windex and it is perfect.

I Was Looking For AChalkboard As A Finishing Touch ToOur Newly Redone Kitchen....The Quality Is Excellent, The Look Is Expensive, Love That Its magnetic Too. Was Not Hard To Hang. Ledge For chalk Handy And Does Not stick Out Too far. Excellent Price And Came fast

The chalkboard looks just like pictured. I originally got it because I wanted a magnetic chalkboard wall for my son, but once I saw how much the ledge stuck out I didn't like the look of it on the wall. I am a teacher so I took it to school, where it works out great. The ledge works better at school because it holds erasers and chalk. So far all the magnets that the kids used have stuck to it.

I bought this to encourage our 2 year old to write as well as stick magnetic letters and numbers on. It seemed a little pricey for a chalkboard, but par for the course when considering dual purpose boards. It looks bigger than I expected.Pros:1. Its a high quality board; smooth and effortless to write on and chalk goes on pretty bright.2. Has an aluminium backing that adds to its strength.3. Comes with all mounting hardware.4. Magnetic letters stick well and are yet easy to re-position.Cons:1. I first hung it up as recommended but after seeing my toddler stress-test it within 2 minutes by pulling at its bottom, I decided to use the more firmer mounting option recommended by the manual for larger boards. It does come with the hardware for that too, but it requires you to make pilot holes on the sides of the board to screw into. I was a little nervous doing it because I didn't want to damage the porcelain and didn't know how far it extended, but it turned out just fine. Now its very firmly mounted and cannot be nudged. I think the board should have come with the screw holes.2. The ledge is very narrow. It can hold chalk but not a duster.Definitely recommend this board to anyone looking for a dual-purpose board.
