Got the xl bed for my germain shorthair pointer. She weighs about 40 pounds. I took the support bar that goes in the flap out and she seems to like it better being floppier. I had also got the large bed and it really wasn't big enough for her to get under comfortably, so now that's just an extra bed she lays on but doesn't get under.

It took a minute for my dog is get the idea that she can go inside so we put a small blanket in it and now she never comes out. It's a good quality.

The photo of this dog bed is exactly what it looks like. Because the top is low the dog has to be willing to duck its head down, crawl in and then turn around. But once this is accomplished the top flops over them and covers them up all nice and snuggly. My dog seems to love being inside it but she hasn't quite figured out how to get in there all the way yet. I looked at several different styles of clam beds before choosing this one and some of the others look like the top stands up higher and might be easier to get into but might not provide as much cover as this one does.
