The good and the bad: Good - Received the Dietz Air Pilot Lanterns (ordered two (2) to save on shipping, one (1) would come out to $28, adding another only added $14 more) very prompt shipping. Tried one out already and it performed fine. Worth the money - good product. Bad - Very poor and flimsy packaging. How the lanterns didn't arrive in pieces is amazing. The carton was thin, taped-up, and packed with newspapers instead of bubble wrap. Parts of the carton were pushed in and torn. There was a small crack near the top of one of the lantern globes where the cap goes over (shifted in transit). I lit that one to see if the crack would cause the globe to shatter, but it didn't. The crack is on the top and covered by the lantern top. It's not visible when cap is down. Not worth trying to return it since it seems not to be growing. Not worth the trouble. Whoever OPENTIP uses, they need to have them upgrade their packaging.

Hello to all. I am sorry to say that I cannot give these lanterns five stars, as I wanted to.
I ordered two of these lanterns thinking that I was getting a good deal, and one of them came with a broken globe. I was upset, but I figured it wasn't that big of a deal as I still had one good usable lantern and I could just get a new globe. So, I fire up the one good lantern and within about five minutes I hear a "pop".
Some of you good folks may have guessed that the "pop" I heard was indeed the one "good" globe I had received cracking right down the side. Now I'm no old hand with lanterns, but I don't think they're supposed to do that.
So, in conclusion, I give these lanterns a whopping two stars. I hope that the Opentip customer service will work with me to get a couple of new globes, but even so these globes WERE new. I am highly disappointed in the quality of the globes on these lanterns, and I cannot believe that they receive such good reviews from everyone else. I honestly kind of wonder if I have been sold knock-offs, after everything I read praising Dietz as THE lantern to buy.
