As other reviews have mentioned, the instructions are lacking. You need to use your imagination and think outside of the box when assembling certain aspects of this model. If you don't enjoy a challenge, or working with miniatures, this kit is not for you. It also is not for children.This was my first wooden model, and I was very suprised by how well it turned out. The planking was definitely a challenge, and you will need to experiment and do some research to find what methods work for you. Do some research and watch some videos before you attempt this.If you take your time, this can be a very entertaining, fulfilling and inexpensive hobby. If you're used to plastic models, with detailed instructions and snap together parts, you won't enjoy this project.

Be patient. Don't rush.I saw the reviews about the instructions. I would agree that the instructions are sparing, but it's not a big deal. The pictures are helpful when assembling.Pros:1. Cheap introductory product for learning2. High quality wood print. Very few laser burns on the product.3. Fun to assemble (kept me busy for several months - but I'm going slow)Cons:1. Low quality cannons that come with the product (I majorly dislike the square cannons - I plan to 3d print my cannons for better results)2. Low quality string that comes with the product - I recommend buying separate twine3. Low quality cloth for the sails4. The deck for the boat is one solid sheet of wood. There isn't much depth to the deck. I would have liked to lay the individual planks, and will look for a product with individual planks in the future.Tips:1. If you are using super glue make sure you are in a WELL ventilated area!2. Go slow.3. Sanding does miracles.

Was a waste of money, I bought 2 of these, both were a waste of money, parts are missing, other parts don't fit, I only built about a quarter of both, and Gave up, DON'T BUY THESE, it's not worth wasting your time

The directions were in Japanese and we speak English so my husband, who the gift was for, couldn't even build it and we had to send it back. Very disappointed!
