I have an REI 2-man tent that has been reliable through canyonlands' snowy nights, Isle Royale, boundary waters, etc. it was while doing the Laugavegur trek for 7 days with daily rain that the seams of my reliable rain fly revealed that the tape was old and no longer waterproof. I read about sticky silicone and some products needing baby powder, etc. Wasn't really interested in something that stayed gummy--plus I go for light weight backpacking and that sounds like extra weight. I don't write reviews very often, but this product was EXACTLY what you need if your tent lost its rain-proofness. When reading reviews it was hard to find one that came out to say that. People say that they couldn't figure out how to apply it-- that when they set up their tent it dripped down the side. This is a liquid. You don't set up the tent or rainfly. You lay it flat on the ground. This dries to essentially no weight at all, it's not sticky in the least. It's like a cobweb thin layer of rubber or silicone, but it's not sticky. You have to plan ahead because it takes 24 hours to dry. I taped my seams with painters tape on the first side to make them neat. It wasn't really necessary so I didn't bother on the opposite side. The bottle is awfully small volume, and I needed 2 bottles to cover all seams on both sides (as recommended by other users-- and which I agree with) of the 2 person tent rainfly, but I think the small bottle size is actually helpful-- the product has a brush for application (which I think is perfect) that gets lumpy gum bits built up in it if you close it to set aside if you want to use it 24 hours later. So if you can use the whole thing in one use, it works the best, but if you don't, just clean the brush off with a paper towel after you use it. Awesome product. Works great-- this is the thing you need for your rain proofing of the seams of your rain fly.

Does an ok job of sealing canvass seams from water on my camper. In hot weather the sealer on the canvass does tend to get very soft thus some of it rubs off when the camper is put away.

As some others have stated it is virtually impossible to use this with the application brush provided. By its very design it has to be held upside down which is just not reasonable to seal most seams. I had to pour the sealer into a bowl and apply with another brush. It took me 2 bottles and I was able to seal most seams in our 10x14 8 person tent and rainfly. I didn't have enough to get all seams, but I skipped those that seemed to be protected best by the fly. This was a brand new tent, so while it didn't have taped seams, they shouldn't have been very worn. We still had leaks through some of the window seams, etc. I treated the inside seams with this, and the outside of the tent and fly with the 3M waterproof spray. While either or both might have had some effect (I don't know what it would have been like had I not used either), even the both of them together couldn't provide a true water barrier. Based on performance and the difficulty/time to apply this, I would say it isn't worth it. The 3M spray has to be reapplied more often, but I would say a double coat of that sprayed on for rainy trips is probably easier and just as effective.
